Aniece: Support through the Storm

I needed a change in my life...

I lost a son just before I started coming here. I just thought I would check out this New Choices program. Life on the street was getting harder the older I got, and I wanted to better myself.

The program helps women in so many ways. We talk about safer sex—some things I didn’t even know. We talk about self esteem and challenges and troubles we have. In the “Support through the Storm” class, we talk about trauma in our lives: rape, violence, and the healing process.

Since I have been in the New Choices program, I have an apartment, a case manager, a support system, rental assistance, and have become a team leader. My appearance has even changed with my changed life! My next goal is to become a peer leader and help other women.
