Event to Honor Amazing Women

Alternatives For Girls is celebrating success – the success of exceptional women for their professional accomplishments, personal attributes and community commitment – and the success of former AFG participants who have made positive life decisions and are achieving admirable goals and accomplishments in their own right. 

The 21st annual dinner takes place at the restored Westin Book Cadillac Hotel, Thursday, April 22 at 5:30 pm.  Tickets are $150.  Reception, dinner, silent auction and live auction by Chris Aslanian are included.  Don't miss your chance to win a spectacular vacation, stunning jewelry, sports memorabilia, and more. Anqunette Jamison, the new morning anchor on Fox 2, will be our emcee.

Jocelyn K. AllenJocelyn K. Allen
Vice President of Corporate Communications of Public Affairs -- OnStar by GM

Jocelyn K. Allen is responsible for communicating the strategic direction of the OnStar brand to internal and external audiences. In her previous roles with General Motors, she managed broadcast media relations and external communications for GM’s philanthropic, community relations, and diversity activities. A Detroit native, she holds a Masters in Organizational Communications and Public Relations from Wayne State University. Ms. Allen has been recognized for her professional achievements by the Multicultural Humanitarian Award from the Alan Miller Foundation and the National Diversity Opportunity Council, the inaugural Michigan Chronicle Women of Excellence Award and the Urban Wheel Awards Minority Executive of the Year (2009).

Susan SteigerwaltSusan P. Steigerwalt, MD
St. Clair Specialty Physicians

Susan P. Steigerwalt, MD, has practiced medicine in metro Detroit her entire career, join us demonstrating an unwavering commitment to women, African-Americans, and the city. She and her partners established a state-of-the art medical clinic on Detroit’s east side, renovating an abandoned building. She earned her medical degree from the University of Michigan, did her residency at Detroit General Hospital, and completed fellowships in nephrology and hypertension at Wayne State University and Henry Ford Hospital. Dr. Steigerwalt regularly speaks and publishes on hypertension and kidney disease, conditions prevalent in the community she serves. A particular area of expertise is improved adherence to hypertension treatment regimens for women. She resides n Rosedale Park in Detroit.

Christianne SimsChristianne Sims
Director, Fusion
Detroit Regional Chamber

Christianne Sims is the Director of Fusion, a group dedicated to enriching the community and developing young professionals and entrepreneurs into future leaders. Fusion works to make metro Detroit more attractive to young talent and businesses. She is also a high school coach at Grosse Pointe North and recently partnered with Think-Detroit PAL to organize the first inner-city Lacrosse camp in which over 120 boys and girls participated. Ms. Sims received a BA in Marketing and International Business from Xavier University in Ohio, is a graduate of New Detroit’s Multicultural Leadership Series, and is on the 2009 Diversity Champion Honor Roll of the Race Relations & Diversity Task Force.

Anquenette's on-air day begins at 4:30 a.m., bringing early risers up-to-date and staying on top of developing stories. She helped launch Fox 25 Morning News in Boston and loved being a part of the unpredictable format. Prior to her time in Boston, she held positions in Las Vegas and Southbend, Indiana. She enjoys speaking at schools about television reporting and anchoring.
