Unique Programs That Work
Alternatives For Girls delivers three key services to homeless and high-risk girls and young women: AFG Prevention; the AFG Shelter; and AFG Outreach. From the Rise-N-Shine Summer Program to the Transition to Independent Living Program and the Safe Choices Project, AFG programming is designed to address both the immediate and long-term needs of program participants, empower them to seek and make positive choices, and effect lasting and meaningful change in their lives.

Qualified Staff
AFG employs more than 45 highly-qualified, full-time staff members who deliver services to participants or manage administrative concerns (Development, Finance, Support Operations) that enable us to deliver services.

Volunteers Who Care
More than 300 volunteers have signed up to help Alternatives For Girls accomplish its mission. These generous people give their time, talents, energy and expertise to a number of projects, programs and initiatives. From serving on the AFG Board of Directors to teaching workshops, managing our Web site, stuffing envelopes and helping out with special events, volunteers provide a needed source of support to AFG.

Financial Support
Fifty percent of funding for Alternatives For Girls’ programs is provided by federal, state, county and municipal government sources. Another 25 percent comes from private foundations. Corporations and individual donors contribute the final 25 percent. AFG also receives in-kind contributions, including the donation of services (e.g., printing and graphic design), materials and equipment (e.g., computers, arts and crafts supplies, books), clothing and much more.
