Roseann: a powerful woman

I have participated in Alternatives For Girls programs since I was 5 years old—Drama Club, conflict resolution classes, arts and crafts and many others after-school activities. Each summer I attended the Rise ‘N’ Shine program between the ages of 5-14. The summer program not only kept me active during the summer, it gave me a safe environment to nurture and develop skills.

When I reached high school I participated in the Teen Advisory Panel. We tackled issues pertaining to teens and did community service. For 4 years, I also was employed by AFG as a Youth Leader for the Rise ‘N’ Shine summer camp for girls. It was a pleasure and a blessing to be able to contribute and give back to the same program that gave so much to me as a child.

AFG was the outlet that allowed me to express myself and the voice that told me I could do anything I put my mind to. My participation in AFG helped me develop into the strong woman I am today.

Through AFG I have met other strong women who have been the die-hard supporters of all my dreams. AFG empowers girls so they become strong young women – powerful women. AFG encourages girls to not place limitations on themselves and pushes them –in a good way – to surpass all doubt and exceed their own goals.
